RECAP: CHSAA JR. WEIGHT & NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Blessings continue in 2022 at Monsignor Scanlan High School! On Sunday, January 2nd, 2022, the Crusaders started the year on a positive note. We had a small group compete in the CHSAA Jr. Weight & Novice Championship at the Ocean Breeze Facility. There were no freshman races, so this gave our freshman girls an opportunity to see how they will perform against sophomore, junior and varsity athletes.
We competed in the following events: varsity high jump, long jump, 55 meters, 300 meters, 600 meters and 4x200 meter relay. Awards were given to the top five athletes in the event. The Crusaders pride stood tall! Dakota Hickman won the high jump.
Saniah Caldwell won the long jump. Kimaris Hickman competed in the mix (girls & boys) 55 meters race. She was the 1st girl and took 7th overall. Candice ran in the mix (girls & boys) 300 meters race. She was the 1st girl and took 6th overall. Dakota, Kimaris, Saniah & Candice ran the varsity girls 4x200 meter relay and took 2nd place, taking over two seconds off their best time and they qualified to run the finals at the New Balance Games.
Dontae Lindo competed in his first high school 300- & 600-meters race. He took 12th out of 117 athletes in the 300 meters and 13th out 48 athletes in the 600 meters. Great job Crusaders!!!
Our next meet is on Saturday, January 8th the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games @ Ocean Breeze Facility in Staten Island, NY.
