Scanlan Unveils New Gym Floor; First Step Towards Future Projects
BRONX, NY – Indoor athletic competition is back at Monsignor Scanlan High School. Although the allowed amount of fans in attendance is still limited due to state and city ordinances related to the COVID-19 pandemic, those who are allowed to attend will be the first to experience the some of the new features at Gallagher Gymnasium. The school’s newly surfaced gym floor was completed during the Thanksgiving holiday and was revealed to the students today after school. As per athletic director Maxwell Cole, “It really is just perfect timing that we updated the court and other gym elements. Our focus is to continue to build on the momentum of our brand.”

Mr. Cole also states, “The floor looks great! The scorers table was redone by one of our alumni, Miguel Perez, Jr. (Class of 1997), and it looks brand new. It has a modern look and I feel that that kids are going to love it.” The new floor design was also created by Mr. Cole, Mr. Perez, and director of school admissions and Scanlan alumni, Chris Florentino (Class of 2009).
Mr. Cole is working on several projects for the fall and spring sports as well in an effort to boost the department as a whole. "It is very exciting for the teams that are going to play here, our students, and the fans. I am really looking forward to it,” Cole stated.
