VARSITY BOYS COMPLETE THE SWEEP, DEFEAT IONA PREP 60-55

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Playing before fans for the first time since February 2020, the Crusaders raced to a 60-55 victory over the Iona Prep Gaels Friday night in New Rochelle.


Junior Jabari Phillip scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half. Fellow junior Bryce Simmons added 16 points, while sophomore Nasir Rodriguez contributed for 10 points.


The Crusaders closed out the 1st quarter with a 16-12 lead over the Gaels behind 5 points from sophomore, Nasir Rodriguez. In the second quarter, the Gaels continued to fight and managed to keep the Crusader at four going into the half. In the 3rd quarter the Crusaders were led by junior Jabari Phillip, who scored 8 of his 17 points to help the Crusaders maintain a slim 5 point lead going into the fourth quarter, 45-40.


Despite 8 points in the fourth quarter behind their senior leader, RJ Greene (game-high 21pts), the Gaels were not able to counter the Crusader offensive led by Phillip, Simmons, and fellow junior. Jaylen Logue (8pts). The final score was 60-55 with Scanlan taking the victory.


The Crusaders take on St. Peters in Staten Island on Sunday as part of a league triple-header. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00pm.
